Social Housing Competition

Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Team: collaboration with OTO Arquitectos
Status: on-going

The project was part of a public competition organized by Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation in partnership with Municipality of Lisbon. The main aim of the project was to create an affordable housing complex which is in line with the cost-control housing policy.

The competition task was to design 167 apartments units and 4 000 m2 of commercial space, which corresponds to total area of 20 000 m2.

The  residential complex consists of 5 buildings, 6 floors each. Additional 2 floors are dedicated to commercial area and underground parking for residents and customers. Due to significant differences in existing terrain the complex can be accessed from three different levels: from the external road to commercial parking, from the south-east to commercial space and residents parking and from the north side to internal patio and housing.

Internal areas between building were arranged as public spaces for residents and relate to existing urban fabric.

In the project there are 3 types of apartments: T1, T2 and T3. Each apartment has a balcony and view over the valley or the river.

The facade of the building was designed from modular elements made of glassfibre reinforced concrete.
