Hotel Spa

Location: Barranco de Azuaje, Gran Canaria

Barranco de Azuaje is a site with a varied and spectacular ecosystem where nature, at different levels, tells a different story. The vegetation goes up and changes at each height until it becomes a geological formation with cavities carved by erosion.

Along the ravine there is an old, abandoned hotel with spa. In the current state of the hotel, there are holes in different planes that allow to perceive the space from various perspectives. The gaps are opened at the same time to vegetation and architecture. That’s why from each place depth can be seen.

The idea of the project was to create a building that will form a layer similar to these formed by nature. On each floor, the openings allow the external part of the building to enter inside. The vegetation intertwines with the architecture that also goes outside, into nature.

The rooms constitute an extension of the main building. At first they are adjacent to main building but the farther, the more they separate. Each room has its own small pool that is open to the garden and allows to enjoy time close to the vegetation.

On the other side of the ravine there is spa area which  is connected to the hotel by the ramp. Part of the building is located underground. There are bathing rooms with spa waters and associated infrastructure. On the upper part, baths were located on the fresh air.
